The Fairy of Galway

In 18th century Galway, young Liadh Mahony lives a hard, isolated life on a remote farm, marked by unusual physical features. Apprenticed to an old shepherd, Séamus, and his lad, Domhnall, Liadh discovers a talent for music and learns the stories of the land.

But she has attracted the attention of The Other Crowd, the Aos Sí of Irish folklore. They can bring bad luck to those who cross their path, which can even be fatal! And they are watching over her.

As her nature becomes evident, tragedy strikes, her community brands her "fairy-touched" and drives her out. Malnourished and wandering the wilderness, she is guided by a fairy spirit to an ancient barrow mound at Samhain. This is a sídhe, a secret portal to Tír na nÓg, the Irish Otherworld, where she is shocked to discover her true heritage and abilities as a Leannán Sídhe, which the fairies use as her name.

Escaping Tír na nÓg using an ancient bronze brooch, Leannán finds herself stranded in a completely foreign world. Befriended by Caeladar’ri, a hunter of the Alfari people, she must adapt to a culture that knows magic, but views her own, wild draíocht with deep suspicion. Seeking acceptance, she learns survival, archery, and swordcraft, joining Caeladar’ri to defend her lands from dangerous goblin bands and monstrous threats.

Yet, as Leannán tries to build a new life, the inescapable nature of her curse resurfaces. Realizing she cannot outrun what she is without mastering her magic, Leannán is forced to leave that world behind and seek answers back where her journey began.

Under the guidance of her true mother, the Lady Máirghréad, Leannán accepts her ancestry and magic, and acknowledges her calling in service to the goddess Bríd. But before she can embrace her destiny, she insists on returning to the mortal world to make amends for the consequences of her past actions.

Emerging back in Ireland, Leannán, like Oisín, discovers that time moves differently in the Otherworld, and the Great Famine has laid waste to her homeland. Learning that her surviving family has emigrated across the Atlantic, Leannán embarks on a journey to the bustling slums of Manhattan, partnering with a sharp Dublin financier to track down her remaining kin and secure her family's legacy before taking her place among the old gods.
